BIDENS PILOSA
(Also known as Spanish needles)
A plant extract derived from a relative of the daisy family, Bidens pilosa works by mimicking retinol’s mechanism of action, helping to reduce the appearance of common signs of skin ageing. By adopting similar action to retinol, it targets areas prone to loss of firmness and plumpness, providing impressive results in smoothing the appearance of wrinkles but with minimal side effects.

Renowned for its excellent emollient properties and ability to help improve the barrier function of the skin, we source our shea butter from West Africa, where the pulp of the fruit is removed to reveal the kernel, which is boiled and dried in the sun before being shelled for pressing.

AMAZING a must have for anyone with sensitive skin
In the past I've tried several premium retinol products, and each one has caused irritation beyond the usual, initial dryness. I’m prone to eczema so was very careful in trying retinols but gave up as my skin seemed happier when left alone from strong active ingredients.
I am 54 with what I think is pretty good skin (thanks to my Liz Earle Superskin regime!) but have started to notice a few more fine lines here and there so thought now was the time to try this Alt-Retinol product. One word: AMAZING! I have used this for 10 days (applied every 2 – 3 nights on its own after cleansing and toning) and when I wake up my skin looks so much plumper and sleep marks (despite silk pillowcases) are less prominent to the point where I can hardly see them. When applied, it looks a bit matte and waxy, but that’s OK as it’s bedtime! In the morning the waxy look has disappeared just leaving really happy looking, healthy skin.
I’ve experienced no irritation and am so happy with the results I am tempted to use it more frequently but will stick to the rules.
I strongly recommend this product to anyone with sensitive skin who feels left behind in the Retinol race.

Excellent, especially for mature skin
I use this product three times a week - Monday, Wednesday and Friday - and I love the way it is completely absorbed and leaves my skin soft. Don't need much so it lasts.

Very efficient
I have been using this for a long time. I find it invaluable for refining my pores. It appears expensive but since it only has to be used 2-3 times a week it's not so bad.

Does what it says on the tube!
This is my third tube! I use it sparingly alongside other Liz Earl products where I have patchiness. It really helps improve small lesions. Lovely buttery texture makes application easy to target or to smooth more widely. Lovely addition to the range!

Love Alt-Retinol Skin Paste
I have used this product for some time now. I use it 2-3 times a week and leave it on overnight. When I remove it in the morning, my skin feels soft and visibly more plump. I wouldn't be without it!

We would recommend using this 2 - 3 times a week, and as this does not contain any retinol, this is suitable for continuous use.

Can I use this with a serum that contains salicylic acid?

We can confirm our Superskin Alt-Retinol Skin Paste uses a plant-based alternative to Retinol, which helps deliver skincare benefits, whilst being gentle on the skin, meaning minimal side effects. After regular use, skin looks more youthful with a visible reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
There is no retinol in our Superskin Alt-Retinol Paste, so the level is 0 and should not interfere with any other skincare products within your routine, including those that contain salicylic acid. However, please note that our Paste has not been tested with products containing salicylic acid as a direct ingredient.

How long does it last in terms of date of expiry?
Thank you for your question. We can confirm all our products have been tested in accordance with industry standards and show a minimum shelf life of at least thirty six months (3 years).
It may also be helpful to know that on each of our product, you will find the EU standard Period After Opening (PAO) symbol which identifies the 'lifetime' of a product once opened for the first time. It can be used as a guide once your product has been opened. The number inside the image of the pot tells you the number of months of this product's lifetime once opened, for example, 9M indicates 9 months – the shelf life of the Superskin Alt-Retinol Skin Paste is 12 months once opened.

Hi I. Does this paste help with pigmentation and sun damage?
This is very good to use after the exfoliating mask also by itself.Your skin looks smoother and clearer.I think it helps with sun damage but I do still have some pigmentation.I use it twice a week because my skin looks clearer and brighter after using it.

So I cleanse, essence lotion, eye cream, moisturiser and then serum. When using the retinol paste would I just cleanse and put it on or would I do my routine as usual and the make the paste my last step? Thanks in advance.
I find this brilliant product works best after using the cleanse and polish, followed by instant boost. I do apply the eye cream as this is around the orbital bone.
I apply the paste in place of any moisturiser or oil overnight, as (for me) works better this way.
It's a 'do all' last night time application

I use retinol serum, would I be able to use your alt paste as well twice a week as I like it’s added benefits or would that be too much

Unfortunately, we're not familiar with other brands, so it's very difficult to advise whether our Superskin Alt-Retinol Skin Paste would be suitable to use alongside your retinol serum. However, this product contains plant based Bidens Pilosa, which mimics the retinol type action and is much gentler on the skin.
As with all our products, we would recommend a patch test first.

Is it non comedogenic (pore blocking) . I have been told to only use non comedogenic products as some immediately cause spots despite cleansing whereas non comedogenic ones don’t . Thank you

However, we believe that one ingredient that could cause a product to be comedogenic is mineral oil and this is not something that is used in our skincare range, as we believe that plant oils are better for the skin.
