A busy diary alongside festive excess; a lack of sleep, heavier make up, indulgent meals and the odd espresso martini (or two) can take its toll on your skin.

What to do: the night of

Whether you’re hosting a quiet, candlelit dinner with family or a slightly more raucously (refined) cocktail party with friends, finding time for yourself at the end of the night and looking after your skin can be a trial. Falling into the trap of ‘oh, I’ll do it in the morning’ can be so easy. But think again… Cleansing doesn’t get any easier, or luxurious, than Liz Earle’s simple and effective 3-step cleansing routine. Think of it as little moment of ‘me time’ after a hectic day.
Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser 200ml tube

The first step is to choose a cleanser with a formula that’s designed to melt away make up and impurities, like Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. It uses nourishing cocoa butter to remove even the most stubborn of mascara and is scientifically proven to boost skin hydration after just one use.

Superskin™ Advanced Nourishing Cleansing Balm 100ml

If you like a cleansing balm, this is the perfect opportunity to use one, as the oil-based ingredients are perfect for breaking down all layers of make up. The Superskin Advanced Nourishing Cleansing Balm is powered by acacia tree extract, the plant-based alternative to collagen, to help leave skin looking firmer, plumper and more moisturised.

Liz Earle Beauty Cleanser range

Post party, one cleanse is fine but double cleansing is advised, especially if you’re removing make up. If you used a oil-based cleanser for your first cleanse, move onto a milk, gel or water-based cleanser for your second.

Skin Repair™ Hydrating Serum 30ml

While your skin is still damp from cleansing, quickly apply either a hydrating serum or toner. Doing this while your skin is wet will give your products a good base to stick to, drawing more moisture back into the skin.

Skin Repair™ Hydrating Night Cream 50ml

The final step to removing your party make up is to choose your favourite hydrating night cream to lock in all of that goodness. The Skin Repair™ Hydrating Night Cream helps maximise overnight recovery and deeply replenishes while you sleep, while Superskin™ Nourishing Night Cream locks in moisture for firmer-feeling skin.

What to do: the morning after

The morning after the night before… Yes, it can be a struggle for those who over-indulge or burn the midnight oil, however those with a sensible (and consistent) routine still know that skin may need a little TLC when you wake up. Despite your best efforts the night before, late nights and colder weather during the party season can increase their toll on your complexion, so a twice a day routine is recommended.

Start by cleansing your skin again – no matter how thorough you think you were the previous evening, it’s best to ensure you removed all traces of make up before attempting to rehydrate. Using circular, massaging motions will feel great and could even help with any puffiness you might see.

Next, let’s do some gentle exfoliating for a much-needed reset, as this will help remove any dead skin cells lingering on the surface to reveal that coveted radiant-looking complexion. When your skin is dehydrated it is more susceptible to irritation, so gentle is the key word here. If you’re unsure, you can read our guide on how to exfoliate the right way to find the best formula for your skin.

Superskin™ Microdermabrasion Polish 75ml

If you prefer to use a chemical exfoliator, the Smooth & Glow Exfoliating Tonic is a gentle formula that harnesses the power of prickly pear as a natural alternative to acid exfoliation. This means it evens the appearance of the skin - without any irritation. If you prefer a physical exfoliator, Superskin Microdermabrasion Polish combines fruit AHAs with volcanic pumice to reveal brighter, younger-looking skin.

Superskin™ Concentrate

Next, it’s time to cool things down. If you’ve noticed any puffiness from a lack of sleep or alcohol, you can use cold temperatures to help stimulate your blood flow, leading to skin that looks more refreshed. You can use ice to help de-puff – try filling up a basin with water and add a few ice cubes before plunging your face in for five seconds. If you’re not a fan of the cold, try a facial massage instead using tools like a gua sha, rose quartz roller or your fingers and a few drops of a facial oil.

Eyebright™ Soothing Eye Lotion 150ml

As you know, locking in hydration is the key to healthy-looking skin – so opt for an eye treatment and moisturiser post-cleansing. The skin under your eyes is thinner than the rest of our face, so is more susceptible to dryness, puffiness and dark circles – especially after a later-than-expected evening. The morning after a party, treat them to something that will give them a little more energy like Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion with cooling aloe vera and refreshing eyebright extract (top tip, leave in the fridge and apply first thing for refreshing little pick-me-up). If you want something to specifically target dark circles, try the Superskin Eye Cream instead.

Superskin™ Moisturiser with natural neroli 50ml

Finish up with an intensely nourishing moisturiser and a swipe of lip balm – your skin will thank you for it!
